How to use this worksheet

  1. Count the pictures in the first group.
  2. Count the second group, then count both groups together.
  3. Write the total in the answer box and read the addition together.

Choose your practice

Choose addition within 6, within 8 or within 10. Larger groups use two rows so the pictures remain easy to see. Use New practice sheet for another set of numbers at the same level.

Start within 6 after the child can count each group reliably. Model joining two groups with counters, then count them all. Move to within 8 or 10 when this feels comfortable. The child can say the total while an adult writes it. Pictures change between tasks but stay consistent within each task.

Changing the practice level creates a fresh version. For another sheet at the same level, use the New practice sheet button. Save the settings link or add the sheet to a pack to keep that version. Tracing keeps the same correct forms and varies their arrangement or path lengths.

Age guidance is approximate. Print on A4 or US Letter paper. Choose outlines to save ink or pre-coloured pictures to start the activity without colouring. The instructor key follows the same worksheet options and paper size.
