How to use this worksheet

  1. Ask the child to touch each picture once while saying the counting words.
  2. Ask how many pictures there are altogether. Count again if a picture was missed.
  3. Write the total in the box. The child can say the number while an adult writes it.

Choose your practice

Start with 1–3 pictures while the child learns to count each object once. Move to 1–5, then 6–10 when the child can count comfortably and say the total. Larger quantities use two rows. Pictures vary between rows but stay the same within each row, so the child can focus on counting. Choose pre-coloured pictures for a counting-only task or black outlines for lower-ink printing. Use New practice sheet for more practice at the same level; the preview, PDF and instructor key keep the same version.

Complete one row together. Cover the other rows with plain paper if the full sheet feels distracting. If a picture is counted twice, point to each object in order and try again. An adult can write the answer so number writing does not get in the way of counting. Stop for a break rather than requiring the whole page.

Changing the practice level creates a fresh version. For another sheet at the same level, use the New practice sheet button. Save the settings link or add the sheet to a pack to keep that version. Tracing keeps the same correct forms and varies their arrangement or path lengths.

Age guidance is approximate. Print on A4 or US Letter paper. Choose outlines to save ink or pre-coloured pictures to start the activity without colouring. The instructor key follows the same worksheet options and paper size.
